MIAMI—
Q: When the Pacers pulled Roy Hibbert, and the Spurs pulled Tim Duncan, Chris Bosh was left as the tallest man on the court. Small ball won the chess match on offense during the playoffs. I would bet Greg Oden will only see game time when the Heat need defense to protect the rim. -- Ray, Sunrise.A: But one thing Erik Spoelstra has shown, whether it has been LeBron James' post game, getting Dwyane Wade to move more without the ball, lifting Bosh to the mid-post, is that he finds games that work for his players. I think once Oden rounds into form (if that is still possible), Erik will find a game for him, as well. The Heat have managed to evolve these past three Big Three seasons. They'll likely continue to evolve as the personnel evolves.
Q: Three years, three trips to the Finals, two titles . . . don't you ever get sick at those stilly questions about Micky Arison's spending, Pat Riley's player choices and Spoelstra's ability to handle such a unique group of players and personalities? Can't the regular Heat fan just enjoy the ride? Regards from South America (Heat fan since 1992). -- Raul, Asuncion, Paraguay.
A: And yet there is something to be said about the passion, fans always wanting more and better from their team. There was a time when no one cared. Now, perhaps they care too much. Left to choose, passion is the preference here.
Q: Ira, now that you make mention of Udonis Haslem having offseason surgery to improve his step and athleticism, wasn't his limping long-time teammate supposed to have the same to regain some of his Flash? -- T.J., Dillsboro, N.C.
