Jazz opens vs. Golden State on October 8; will also host L.A. Clippers and Portland
This year’s schedule marks the third time in four years that the Jazz will host three preseason games in Salt Lake City. The 2010 preseason was the first time this ever occurred, and was the first time since 2001 that the team played three preseason games in the state of Utah.
Jazz fans will get their first chance to see the team in Salt Lake City when Utah opens the preseason at home against the Golden State Warriors on October 8. The Jazz will close out the home portion of the schedule by hosting the Clippers on October 12 and the Trail Blazers on October 16.
The Jazz will also play the Trail Blazers at CenturyLink Arena in downtown Boise, Idaho, on October 11 in a game hosted by the NBA Development League’s Idaho Stampede, with the Stampede’s current NBA affiliate, Portland, serving as the home team. Located less than 350 miles from Salt Lake City, the city of Boise has long had a strong Jazz fan base and has many ties to the Jazz organization. The game will mark the sixth time the Jazz has played a preseason game in Boise (1984, 1987, 1999, 2001 and 2003) and eighth time in Idaho, having also played twice in Pocatello. The Jazz also held training camps on the campus of Boise State University from 2005-2009, and was the NBA affiliate of the Idaho Stampede during the 2006-07 and 2011-12 seasons.
The preseason schedule wraps up with a four-game road trip that begins at Oklahoma City on October 20 and then closes with three straight games in Southern California, with the Jazz facing the Lakers and Clippers on consecutive nights at STAPLES Center October 22-23, then seeing the Lakers again in Anaheim, Calif., on October 25 in the preseason finale. This will be the fifth meeting in the last seven years between the Lakers and Jazz in Anaheim.
All five Jazz 2013 preseason opponents were also on the 2012 preseason schedule. This will mark the sixth straight preseason (2008-present) that the Jazz and Trail Blazers will meet twice, including the abbreviated two-game 2011 preseason. The Jazz will play both Los Angeles teams for the third time in the last four preseasons, with 2011 being the exception. It will be the second straight preseason the Jazz plays the Clippers home-and-home (played at least once in four of the last five preseasons), and the Jazz will be meeting the Lakers for ninth and 10th times since 2005 (played seven of last nine preseasons). The Jazz and Thunder faced off in Salt Lake City in 2012 in the first preseason meeting between the two since 2004, when the Thunder were still known as the Seattle SuperSonics, The Jazz and Warriors also played last season for the first time since 1995.
All Jazz preseason, regular-season and playoff games will be broadcast live on radio on 1280 The Zone (1280 AM/97.5 FM) and the Jazz Radio Network. A complete television broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.
